I painted this in answer to the story "Rainbow Fish." I despise the story "Rainbow Fish." A beautiful fish is told to rip out his scales and give them to more common fish. Kind of a "share the wealth, share your beauty" kind of thing. Personally, I wouldn't want my child, or any other, to mutilate himself in order to fit in.
